Day 1

Breakfast

Super Juice

  • 1 lime - peeled
  • 4 Gala apples - stems removed
  • 1/2 pineapple - peeled, but not cored
  • 1/2 cucumber
  • 1/2 avocado - just the flesh
  • ice cubes

This recipe yields enough for 2 drinks. I would like to add some wheatgrass, acidophilus and spirulina if I can find it. I also 'prepped' my stomach with some lemon and hot water when I first woke up.

I threw everything into the juicer except the avocado flesh. After blending for a minute I put the mixture through a metal mesh strainer. I'm using a Vitamix so there is no pulp but I wanted to get a smoother consistency. I put the mixture  back into the blender, added the avocado and blended another minute.

This one tasted ok. I need to work on the consistency though, more ice cubes maybe. Consumed at 7am, it's now 9am. Starting to feel hungry. Next juice is at 11am.

Juice Journal

Prologue

This morning as I was choking down my first juice of a 7 day raw fruits and vegetables program I wondered to myself how I got here. My weight is always something I have struggled with but I thought I had it under control. I was biking hundreds of miles a month, going to the gym and eating right. 'Best shape of my life' is to cliche, I was a fucking beast! Then I got divorced. What should have been an opportunity to push my body and health to the next level turned into a period of life numbing depression. I now had all the time in the world to ride and work out but I didn't. My weight has now ballooned to 290lbs. My diet is a mix of a healthy breakfast followed by binge eating to the point of exhaustion, followed by a nap and finishing the day with more binge eating.

Seeing a scale go up to almost 300lbs made my heart sink. I have to young sons and I want to be around a lot longer than the short 43 years I've been on the planet. I wanted to kick-start my transformation and decided to give juicing a try. What follows is the recorded events during my week long program.
